Painting will benefit survivors of abuse

Holland — Wanda Aikens is more than happy to sell her ArtPrize competition piece at auction and not collect a dime. The local artist strives to help others, and with the sale of her painting “I Am” she will be doing just that.

Aikens will sell her 35x48-inch oil painting to benefit Bridge Street Place, permanent housing for survivors of domestic violence in Grand Rapids.

“The greatest gift given to us is life, and I want to do whatever I can to help give people the power to life it,” said Aikens.

Michigan nonprofits: See where fundraising conditions are best in the state

LANSING, MI — Nonprofits in west and southwestern Michigan seem to be better off than organizations in other areas of the state.

Organizations on the west side of the state were more likely to meet 2012 fundraising goals and are more enthusiastic about current fundraising conditions, according to survey results recently released by Montgomery Consulting Inc., a Huntington Woods fundraising and economic development consulting firm.
