Grand Rapids' Free Radical Gallery 2013 returns with art in unusual urban settings

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – ArtPrize isn't the only radical, urban exhibition in Grand Rapids.

 

Free Radical Gallery, promoting artists and small business in the Heartside neighborhood, returns along the Avenue for the Arts on Friday.

 

The 11th annual downtown exhibition, created by Dwelling Place, celebrates local art on display in unusual settings.

 

Church building in Grand Rapids planned for apartments

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A vacant church building would be converted into apartments under a $10 million plan going through city review. Dwelling Place wants to re-make the building at 100 Burton St. SE into as many as nine apartments, while tearing down an adjacent newer structure and erecting a 2-story complex with another 32 units.

 

State grants funds for affordable housing downtown

A longtime provider of affordable housing in Grand Rapids is nearing completion of its most recent project, and the state has recently chipped in twice to help make it a reality.

 

Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids, which has made housing and community revitalization its top priority for the past 32 years, is finishing up its renovation of the Herkimer Apartments, at the former Herkimer Hotel at 323 S. Division.

 

South Division Next to See Resurgence?

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - For a long time, South Division in Grand Rapids has been an area that has seen people and businesses move in only to move out a short time later. But could that area become the next part of downtown Grand Rapids to see a major resurgence? Organizations like Dwelling Place are working to make sure that happens. "Over the last 10 years there have been a lot of changes along south Division. If you come down to visit you'll notice we have a lot more stores that are opening," said Jenn Schaub with Dwelling Place.
