Herkimer Apartments renovation
The Grand Rapids DDA awarded Dwelling Place a $75,000 building reuse grant last week for its nearly completed renovation of the historic Herkimer Apartments building, at 309 Division Ave. S.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A vacant church building would be converted into apartments under a $10 million plan going through city review. Dwelling Place wants to re-make the building at 100 Burton St. SE into as many as nine apartments, while tearing down an adjacent newer structure and erecting a 2-story complex with another 32 units.
A longtime provider of affordable housing in Grand Rapids is nearing completion of its most recent project, and the state has recently chipped in twice to help make it a reality.
Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids, which has made housing and community revitalization its top priority for the past 32 years, is finishing up its renovation of the Herkimer Apartments, at the former Herkimer Hotel at 323 S. Division.
Dwelling Place improves the lives of people by creating quality affordable housing, providing essential support services and serving as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.
