The Avenue for the Arts
At Dwelling Place we believe that healthy neighborhood are diverse, alive and include a mix of business and residential spaces. In 2003, Dwelling Place began an initiative to help grow both business and residential interests along the South Division Business Corridor in downtown Grand Rapids. This initiative focused on attracting and retaining creative individuals and featured the development of live/work housing for artists in our Martineau Apartments and later in Kelsey Apartments and Verne Barry Place. In addition, NRD Staff support the creative entrepreneurs that call South Division home by providing specialized classes & community conversations, acting as administrative support for the creation and execution of community based events and addressing the challenges associated with growing a diverse vibrant community.
